The Threat of Global Cooling

"It is a cold fact: the Global Cooling presents humankind with the most important social, political, and adaptive challenge we have had to deal with for ten thousand years. Your stake in the decisions we make concerning it is of ultimate importance; the survival of ourselves, our children, our species," wrote Lowell Ponte in 1976...

...quotes Dr. Tim Ball as he takes the unpopular side in the climate change debate (slogan: dissenters will be shot). Worth a read, whatever your views on the latest environmental crisis.

He has a right to his opinion. There are still MANY scientists who disagree with the whole Global warming phenomenon. They are not as vocal as the ones who agree, because a lot of them are being intimidated and ridiculed by their peers. It’s one thing to say that you do not agree, but why do you have to bring US President George Bush into it?

Actually the new report came from a few people with a political agenda, the real report with hundreds of scientists hasn't been released..

BTW, I read it, it's full of as much crap as you anonymous #1

There is thousands of scientists that are against the antropogenic global warming theory.

No there are a few and they are very vocal. The IPCC represents the overwhelming scientific position. Even prominent skeptics like Roger Pielke recognize this and recently said that the current report "maintain[s] consistency with the actual balance of opinion(s) in the community of relevant experts."

"BTW, I read it, it's full of as much crap as you anonymous #1"

Please explain any part of the summary that beleive is full of crap.

Anonymous #1 and Wayward Son: Your posts reflect part of my concern over the global warming issue. Namely that when people speak up against global warming the primary arguement seems to be that they are against the majority consenus.

Shouldn't the arguement involve more science? The majority has been wrong before, and they will be wrong again. I don't know if this will be one of those times, but it's at least worthy on consideration.

I sometimes call myself a climate change skeptic, but I am not skeptical that 1) the climate is changing or 2) it's a good idea to put less crap in the air.

What am I skeptical about is the value of spending billions (or even trillions) of tax money on programs of dubious value (see the 1 Tonne Challenge).

The things we use everyday (cars, fridges, furnaces, etc...) are much more efficient and environmentally friendly than they were in the past. I see no reason to doubt this trend will continue at least in the near future, as old appliances are retired and replaced.

If this process is enough to ward off the effects of climate change without spending billions of tax dollars then that's worth knowing.

The IPCC summary and all this noise from the enviro-activists are the "crisis du jour" and when their flawed projections don't pan out, they'll be safely onto another crisis altogether.
